    When it comes to her patients, Dr. Sophie Parker takes all matters to heart. Literally. As an expert in cardiovascular health and internal medicine, she knows how to help seniors live their best level of health. “Diet, exercise, stress management and lifestyle – they’re all important parts of a patient’s well-being,” says Dr. Parker. “I enjoy my role in helping patients lead a better life. Spending time with them helps me understand more about their lives and what they need to improve their health issues. I answer their questions and listen to their concerns. Doing so helps me develop the best care plan for them.”

    Since Dr. Tariq Hafiz was 15 years old, he’s been inspired to care for people as a physician. Following in his uncle’s footsteps, he became a cardiologist with a compassionate, holistic approach and an emphasis on prevention. He’s now dedicated to providing the very best for seniors. “Whether I’m helping with complex conditions or managing a healthy lifestyle, I make sure they receive care that’s immensely personalized, well-coordinated, highly knowledgeable and full of patience and empathy,” Dr. Hafiz says. Outside of the office, Dr. Hafiz can be found attending medical conferences, spending time with his wife and sons, reading, watching cricket or traveling to his favorite places like Capri, Italy.

  • Naiema Benson

    DO

    Dr. Naiema Benson is a board-certified osteopathic physician who’s wanted to care for patients since she was a preschooler. Over the years, Dr. Benson has helped patients of many diverse backgrounds. She ultimately became focused on seniors, knowing they often have the greatest needs. “Helping someone get over a challenge or achieve a specific goal is very rewarding,” Dr. Benson says. “However, what I enjoy best is the bond formed with my patients over time.” When she’s not with patients or keeping up with medical research, Dr. Benson can be found spending time with her family. They love playing games and watching movies together. Dr. Benson is also interested in Africa and would like to visit some of its countries one day.

    Acupuncturist

    After benefiting from massage in her early twenties, Marlene Burk was inspired to learn Shiatsu massage and become a nationally certified and licensed acupuncturist. She loves helping others find relief from pain, anxiety, and depression, and she even helps women during pregnancy. “My favorite part is connecting with patients,” Marlene Burk says. “It’s fascinating to get a glimpse into their lives as I look for ways to help them heal. I also like to open their minds to new habits that can impact their health.” When she’s not with patients, Marlene Burk likes to continually expand her acupuncture expertise through research, spend time with her son and cat, cross-stitch, do jigsaw puzzles, and travel the world.

  • Mica Winchester, MD

    Dr. Mica Winchester has been drawn to the sciences since she was a teenager, and she became passionate about caring for underserved populations while in college. As an internal medicine physician, Dr. Winchester says, “I have found it very rewarding to work with seniors. My favorite part has been building long-lasting therapeutic relationships.” When she is with patients, Dr. Winchester strives to make sure they feel heard and treated as equals. She’s also committed to being a life-long learner and always up for a challenge. In Dr. Winchester’s down time, she enjoys reading, music, and travel. Her most memorable visits have been in London and Jamaica, although Dr. Winchester would love to visit South Africa one day.

    From the time Dr. Latha Cherath was 8 years old, she wanted to take care of the sick and dying and provide care and comfort as only a physician could. Becoming a hospitalist was a natural fit. “It’s an honor to serve seniors during their hospital stays,” she says. “I am dedicated to caring for them with the dignity and respect they deserve.” Dr. Cherath especially enjoys listening to her patients’ stories and providing education to support their health. She has traveled around the world and volunteered in refugee camps and in medical clinics serving the poor. When she’s away from work, Dr. Cherath loves to spend time with her husband and children, listen to podcasts, read, write, go on long hikes, watch movies, and listen to music. She also dreams of traveling to Greece and Turkey, and seeing the remnants of ancient civilizations.

  • Kostiya K. Peki

    MD, MPH, MCSO

    Dr. Kostiya Peki experienced a failed healthcare system while growing up in Africa, and it inspired him to advocate for underserved patients. “I strongly believe in social justice and health equity with uncompromising ethics,” says Dr. Peki, who’s board certified in internal medicine. “I was also raised to value seniors, and I’m dedicated to helping improve their quality of life with the dignity and respect they deserve.” In addition to providing care, Dr. Peki has led healthcare networks in the U.S. and other countries as well as humanitarian missions. During his down time, he likes to expand and share his medical knowledge, spend time with family and friends, play ultimate frisbee and chess, read, and watch shows.

    Dr. Rose Lee has always found the human body fascinating. She loves making a difference in people’s lives and prides herself on being “an excellent listener.” She explains, “I am compassionate and try to understand each patient’s background and situation that may influence their emotional and physical well-being.” She emphasizes the importance of prevention and healthy choices in her practice. “I hope this motivates my patients to become active participants in their healthcare decisions, ultimately leading to healthier people,” she says. Dr. Lee strives to be a role model for her children. She loves nature and enjoys hiking with her dogs. She is proud of her Korean ethnicity and is trying to improve her proficiency in the language.

    In high school, Dr. Owen Morris knew he wanted to make a positive difference in people’s lives through a career in healthcare. “My favorite part of podiatry is meeting new patients. There is something new and different every day,” he says. He strives to address all his patients’ questions and concerns. “Making them feel heard is the most important thing,” he says. He emphasizes the importance of preventative medicine in his practice and takes pride in advocating for the senior population. “My door is always open, and I am happy to listen and help in any way I can,” he says. In his free time, Dr. Morris enjoys going to Sixers, Phillies, and Eagles games. He also likes cooking and relaxing with his cat.

    Ever since Dr. Raina Gazurian became a physician, she’s been on a mission to raise the quality of care for patients. Her dedication has changed the way many practices operate, increased patient satisfaction, and earned her several awards. While Dr. Gazurian has even taken on leadership roles, she really enjoys working one-on-one with patients, especially seniors. “My favorite part is hearing their stories and getting a chance to participate in their lives,” she says. “I also love the wisdom and experience seniors share,” Dr. Gazurian says. In her personal time, Dr. Gazurian likes to spend time with family and friends, be outdoors, and travel. Hawaii has been her favorite destination so far.

    Dr. Anup Patel was inspired to pursue a career in healthcare by his physician father. “The ability to forge strong physician-patient relationships is my favorite aspect of a career in primary care,” he says. He enjoys guiding patients and believes in being “proactive with one’s health rather than reactive.” He explains, “I like to equate my role as a primary care physician in my patient’s healthcare journey to that of a coach or a teacher, in that he or she feels better equipped to take care of themselves.” He considers it an honor to care for the senior population. Dr. Patel enjoys traveling, rooting for the Eagles, and visiting art museums in his spare time. He also loves spending time with family and friends.

    For Dr. Connor Whitaker, the best part about being a physician is “talking with patients about their daily lives and educating them on their own health to allow them to thrive.” He explains, “I chose this profession to be a resource for individuals and their families to receive proper healthcare while also being able to understand what their healthcare team is thinking and doing.” He strives to actively listen to patients and is dedicated to detecting and managing high risk diseases. “I think this helps preserve a quality of life and independence that is so important to maintain as a senior,” he says. Dr. Whitaker loves hiking with his wife and daughter in his free time. He also enjoys swimming and practicing Brazilian Jujitsu.
