    When it comes to her patients, Dr. Sophie Parker takes all matters to heart. Literally. As an expert in cardiovascular health and internal medicine, she knows how to help seniors live their best level of health. “Diet, exercise, stress management and lifestyle – they’re all important parts of a patient’s well-being,” says Dr. Parker. “I enjoy my role in helping patients lead a better life. Spending time with them helps me understand more about their lives and what they need to improve their health issues. I answer their questions and listen to their concerns.     Since Dr. Tariq Hafiz was 15 years old, he’s been inspired to care for people as a physician. Following in his uncle’s footsteps, he became a cardiologist with a compassionate, holistic approach and an emphasis on prevention. He’s now dedicated to providing the very best for seniors. “Whether I’m helping with complex conditions or managing a healthy lifestyle, I make sure they receive care that’s immensely personalized, well-coordinated, highly knowledgeable and full of patience and empathy,” Dr. Hafiz says. Outside of the office, Dr. Hafiz can be found attending medical conferences, spending time with his wife and sons, reading, watching cricket or traveling to his favorite places like Capri, Italy.

    Acupuncturist

    After benefiting from massage in her early twenties, Marlene Burk was inspired to learn Shiatsu massage and become a nationally certified and licensed acupuncturist. She loves helping others find relief from pain, anxiety, and depression, and she even helps women during pregnancy. “My favorite part is connecting with patients,” Marlene Burk says. “It’s fascinating to get a glimpse into their lives as I look for ways to help them heal. I also like to open their minds to new habits that can impact their health.” When she’s not with patients, Marlene Burk likes to continually expand her acupuncture expertise through research, spend time with her son and cat, cross-stitch, do jigsaw puzzles, and travel the world.

  • David Duong

    MD, MSEE

    As a child, Dr. David Duong saw many people wounded or killed during the Vietnam War, and it made him want to become a doctor. While he pursued an engineering path first, Dr. Duong did ultimately become a board-certified internal medicine physician and has cared for patients of all ages over the years. “I enjoy building strong, trusting relationships with my senior patients,” he says. “As we work together, I like to educate them on healthy lifestyles and preventing illness.” When he’s not providing compassionate care, Dr. Duong keeps up with medical research, reading literature, church activities, and his children who are currently in college. He also loves international travel, and his favorite destination so far has been Vatican City.

  • Latha Cherath

    MD, PhD, FACP

    From the time Dr. Latha Cherath was 8 years old, she wanted to take care of the sick and dying and provide care and comfort as only a physician could. Becoming a hospitalist was a natural fit. “It’s an honor to serve seniors during their hospital stays,” she says. “I am dedicated to caring for them with the dignity and respect they deserve.” Dr. Cherath especially enjoys listening to her patients’ stories and providing education to support their health. She has traveled around the world and volunteered in refugee camps and in medical clinics serving the poor. When she’s away from work, Dr. Cherath loves to spend time with her husband and children, listen to podcasts, read, write, go on long hikes, watch movies, and listen to music. She also dreams of traveling to Greece and Turkey, and seeing the remnants of ancient civilizations.

    As a physician who specializes in Family Medicine, Dr. Derek Moore loves the ability to care for patients throughout their entire lives. “I want my patients to know that I genuinely care for their wellbeing and that I’m relatable regardless of their stage in life,” he says. Empathy and inclusion are key values in his practice. “There is so much value and respect I hold close to my heart for the senior population and having the opportunity to care for them closely in my everyday work really hits home for me,” he says. Dr. Moore greatly values quality time with family and friends. He strives to make the most of his free time by trying new experiences and going on adventures. He also likes traveling and staying active.

    In high school, Dr. Owen Morris knew he wanted to make a positive difference in people’s lives through a career in healthcare. “My favorite part of podiatry is meeting new patients. There is something new and different every day,” he says. He strives to address all his patients’ questions and concerns. “Making them feel heard is the most important thing,” he says. He emphasizes the importance of preventative medicine in his practice and takes pride in advocating for the senior population. “My door is always open, and I am happy to listen and help in any way I can,” he says. In his free time, Dr. Morris enjoys going to Sixers, Phillies, and Eagles games. He also likes cooking and relaxing with his cat.

    Dr. Lisa Abdul-Haqq pursued a career in healthcare to make a difference. She explains, “I know that each person has a gift, and one of mine is the gift to help those who are hurting and to provide them with holistic care addressing the issues of the mind, body, and spirit.” She says “connecting with patients and seeing positive changes in their health” are two of the most rewarding aspects of her profession. She strives to empower patients through education. If she could change anything about healthcare today, she would focus on eliminating racial disparities and reducing the cost of care. In her free time, Dr. Abdul-Haqq enjoys spending time with friends and family. She also loves singing and considers music therapy for the soul.

    MSN, AGNP

    Growing up, Young Vu witnessed a lot of older generations with no medical background, which encouraged her to pursue a career in healthcare. “Teaching and educating the patients is my strong suit and favorite part of my career,” she says. She believes that improved health literacy empowers patients to take care of their health. She employs “mutual respect, empathy, and open communication” when building relationships with patients. She holds deep compassion for the senior population. Young Vu grew up in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States when she was twenty-one years old. She loves cooking traditional Vietnamese dishes. She also enjoys hiking and watching her four sons play soccer in her free time.

    Dr. Ellen Kim first became interested in medicine after watching her grandfather struggle with various health issues. “I wanted to be able to help folks like my grandfather,” she explains. She likes getting to know her patients through frequent vistiations and says the relationships she forms with them is her favorite part of her profession. She aims to improve the quality of life of her patients. “I am a Christian, and my love for God gives me a compassion for people and fuels my passion to make a difference in the lives of those I come across,” she says. In her free time, Dr. Kim enjoys watching her daughters play field hockey. When she can, she plays in an adult league. She also likes going to the beach and watching K-Dramas.
